Advent Art Journal: Using Downloads/pdf.s

It’s been a while since I’ve taken the time to work in an art journal. There was a lot going on this fall: I was on a creative team,  wrote an article for “Art Journaling” magazine, did the bi-annual iHanna postcard swap, plus working on several crochet projects…then there’s my shoppe. Then to top it all off, I reopened my “home decor” Etsy shop. Clearly I have had a lot to talk about, but getting in front of the keyboard seemed to be a struggle.

I try to make a “Holiday Memory”  journal every year because I have come to rely on them for my Project Life albums (which are still gathering dust…ahem!). This year I decided to combine my Advent journal with memory keeping. Here’s the page I made for Thanksgiving:

A  little about how I will be sharing this journal. I used a lot of elements that I had planned on blogging about this past year, but procrastinated about…yep that’s the truth there for ya. Anyway, here are a few things I plan on sharing about in the next few weeks. I’ll start out with the pdf’s I used, then the painted backgrounds, coffee stained elements, pocket pages for memory keeping, and anything else that pops into my head as I go along.

Now to the downloads: This year I have been relying on these more than ever. It started with phrase stickers printed on clear label paper, to using black and white florals like ink stamps, then wanting something to add to my painted pages without covering the painted bits. You know I love my layering, but I don’t like always covering everything up.

I use Google Docs to play around with phrases and quotes, fonts, sizes and such. You can spend a lot of money buying words and phrases from people, it’s just as easy to make your own with the fonts you like, not to mention the words.

I find most of my florals on IllustratedFaith.com and KellyBangsCreative.com and just set my printer on black and white. I print them in color too, but not for this project. The angels, Madonna and Child, and the floral page I purchased from Etsy shops, I’ll link those at the bottom of this post.

Nov. 26-27: I worked in this journal all day Friday, ate leftovers, and napped, so a super simple page there. On Saturday I went to evening Mass, so I wrote out one of the Scriptures from the reading. I had started out in a different direction with these two pages before I figured out what I wanted to do, but it was fun to find work-arounds.

Journaling Page: as I have mentioned before, I’m not a huge fan of sharing my journaling, so at the end of each week I’ll have a pocket page with tags and journaling cards to jot down thoughts and memories.

There are a couple more pdf.s I use quite a bit, but I plan to share more about those in a later post.

This is just the beginning of this “Advent Journal” series, so if there’s anything else you want to know about these pages or have a post suggestion, please write them in the comments.

As always,

Thank you for stopping by,

See you soon,

~Patty

It’s That Time of Year Again!

Time for the iHanna Postcard Swap!

I love this time of year, I get to go through all the great happy mail ephemera that has been sent to me over the years, and make art with it!

But best of all, I get to make a keepsake page for my Happy Mail Journal!

And for some reason I decided to up my game and post three videos per week on my YouTube channel, so if you’re interested in seeing a video on my postcard process, go HERE.

…and if you’d like to see the process video on my keepsake page, head on over HERE.

Please let me know if you have any ideas for videos in the comments, I need all the help I can get!

Much Love,

Thank you so much for visiting,

Have a great day,

~Patty

September 7-11 In My Memory Journal

All I can say here is…This Was So Much Fun!

These were the days when I was helping my daughter out and watching my grandson while she worked, so he didn’t have to go to daycare everyday. She’s a stay at home mommy now, but I can still give her a break now and again.

I think one of the things I miss quite a bit is that these were taken during the summer last year. It has been a long winter for a lot people, so summer shenanigans are well and truly in order!

I hope I will find the time to continue working on this when the weather improves…cheeky boy!

There is a video that goes with this on my YouTube channel, Patty’s Art Journals, if you would like to see how this page spread came together.

Thank you so much for stopping by,

Have a wonderful day!

~Patty

September 6, In My Memory Journal

Yay! Another page spread in my memory journal! All it took was a little organization to move this project forward! There is a video that goes along with this blog post where I go into a little more detail about my organization. There are still a few things to iron out, but I’m definitely making slow, but forward progress!

And I’m still having fun playing catch-up!

But, I think it may be a good idea to get this done before my grandson goes to college.

There is always so much to do!

Some people know how to stop and smell the roses…with their whole face!

Anyway, if you would like to see the video of this page spread, head on over to my YouTube channel, Patty’s Art Journals and take a look!

Until next time,

Thank you so much for stopping by,

See you soon,

~Patty

“And It’s A Wrap!” a New Video Up!

You know, I think we all have a hard time keeping promises to our selves. I, like many people, enjoy doing things for family and friends, but sometimes I let that get in the way of doing things for myself…and there are only so many minutes in a day!

But, taking the time to start filling my channel with videos, and getting over my camera shyness, is a promise I’m keeping to myself so far!

This is the journaling page in my August Memory Journal. In case your not familiar with my memory keeping process, after I decorate the month’s pages with the photos and ephemera, I write the memory snippets and dates on tags and journaling cards on the last two pages for that month. I’m not sure where this habit came from, but I really enjoy it, so it stuck.

I’m pretty sure I just wanted an excuse to play with my tags! Many paper pads have fun tags and ephemera included, for memory keeping and such, and I’m a total sucker for them!

My goal is to make one video a week. I see people out there making 3 to 4 a week. Where do they find the time!?

Anywho, I hope you will pop over to my YouTube channel, “Patty’s Art Journals”, and watch my little process video on this page spread. It’s about 20 minutes long…I couldn’t make up my mind on color options.

Please let me know what you think. And, if there are any video ideas you would like to see, I would love you to share them with me!

As always,

Thank you for stopping by,

Have a great weekend,

~Patty
