Junk Journal January: Week 2

Some of the prompts at this point started to throw me. If you’re following me along on Instagram, I’m all over the place. Jumping from ‘catching up’ to the present and back again. As a matter of fact, I wanted to write this blog post last week, but “Garden” wasn’t even started…that’s ‘Day 13’. But, I’m pretty well caught up now.

Day 8: “Neutral”

Some of my favorite neutral images on one page spread. I have been holding on to some of these images for years. It’s alway a good feeling when precious ephemera finds a home. This is the backside of “Stitched” and I wanted to use that paperclip somehow, so I made that old photo into a cabinet card and dangled it.

Day 9: “Foliage”

The background images on these pages are some favorites, but a bit dull. I stenciled over them with some bright greens to liven things up a bit and added the usual suspects…postage stamps and butterflies. I have found Butterfly heaven in one of my new favorite Etsy shops TheJunkJournalStudio There’s a lot of fussy cutting involved, but boy is it worth it!

Day 10: “Layered”

I started with layering some tissue paper bits, brushed on some watered down gesso to push some of the color into the background, then added some neutral paper pieces to help pop the bird, butterflies and flowers. That’s definitely some layers.

Day 11: “Eclectic”

I threw everything onto this page spread. This one is at the end of the journal because I wanted to use that tea dyed envelope, and I couldn’t make it work anywhere else. It was a lot of fun just playing with odds and ends here, I’ll have to do this more often.

Day 12: “Torn Edges”

This is a technique I’ve added recently, inking the paper edges. I used to think it was more work than it was worth, but I have a lot of colored ink pads that I need to use before they dry up, and I thought this would be fun.

Day 13: “Garden”

This did not turn out the way I had planned. I totally made a mess out of the stenciling, flowers and butterflies to the rescue!

Moving along…

Day 14: “Pattern”

Of course the first thing I think of is a sewing pattern. Oh, the hours spent pinning tissue paper to fabric to cut and sew, I loved it! I used some images from a vintage sewing book, pieces of an old quilt, then drew in some hexes with pencil. I really had fun with this one.

Well, I hope you are enjoying my travels with “Junk Journal January 2024”! I go back and forth about how I feel about prompts and daily page spreads. Next time I may try to do one page each, or make 2 journals. I can barely close this one already!

I’m hoping to post ‘Week 3’ next week Wednesday since I’ve finally been able to catch up

As always,

Thank you for the visit,

Have a great week,

~Patty

A Quick Hello…with journal pages

Over the last few, weeks I have been spending most of my time making videos for my YouTube channel. I really enjoy the creative process, but it doesn’t leave a lot of time for much else.

I still have so many supplies, empty journals, paints, art supplies of every stripe, and of course…ephemera. So, I still have a lot to work with and use up.

I probably make and film at least five art journal page spreads a week now, and I really love the process. It’s quite the learning curve, but I really appreciate the brain exercises…to an extent.

This means a lot of creating, cleaning up, staging photos, and editing (I can whittle an hour down to 58 seconds for ‘Reels’ and ‘Shorts’ like a pro!) but not time for much else. I think we have a dust bunny colony growing in our living room.

But at least I’m having fun….and filling up journals!

I may not have a lot to say in my blog posts until I get a little more organized, but I can share fruits of my labors, aka; journal spreads.

If you are interested in seeing how these pages came together, you can visit my channel by hitting the YouTube button in my sidebar, I’d love to see you over there!

Until next time,

Thank you for the visit,

Have a great week,

~Patty

It’s That Time of Year Again

Time for the iHanna Post Card Swap!

I think I began participating in the iHanna Post Card Swap in 2014…or maybe 2013. I’m not sure how many years it’s been, I only know it was two blogs ago. My original plan was to repurpose an index card journal to make the postcards…boring! I was feeling much more creative today.

And this is what I came up with…

Painted dictionary pages on cardstock.

This is an experiment that I had zero plans for, until today. I had made these several weeks ago and stuck them on a shelf in hopes I would actually find a use for them…and I did. I will be making a video of how I make these soon, it’s a bit of a process. So, look for that soon if you are interested.

The ephemera bits.

I came across a container with loads of quote cards and such that I’ve been poking around from place to place hoping for inspiration. Nice to finally find a fun project to use them in…on, whatever. These beautiful butterflies are from one of my newest favorite Etsy shops: TheJunkJournalStudio

Olde paper bits.

Again, too much of a good thing. My love for variety gets me into a lot of trouble.

Handmade decorative tape.

These are from a video I made last week, so much fun! If you would like to see how I made these, here’s the link to my channel: EclecticArtJournals

The cards.

As you can see I only made four, I actually need to make 10…unless you would like one!

My plan is to make a video of my postcard making process sometime soon. I may decide to embellish these with a little paint if I get inspired. I really just wanted to get this blog post out there in time in case you were interested in joining up. The deadline to sign up is November 19th, the link to sign up is here: iHanna PCS

Did you catch that little hint up there about sending you a postcard? I think it would be so much fun to make more of these for my friends here, (international mail is more than welcome too). All you have to do is send me an email with your name and address, the button is at the top right of this page.

Sending a card to me is completely optional, I’ll put my address on all the cards I send out.

Until next time,

Thanks so much for stopping in,

Talk to you soon,

~Patty

Shoppe and Video Newness

It’s been a while since I shared about my shoppe here because like everything else creative in my life, I’ve been struggling to make the time. I tend to go whole hog for a few days on a project, then burn out. And it seems to get harder to get back into the grove again as I get older, kinda like “The Little Engine That Could” chug, chug… Of course it doesn’t help that I love watching other people create as much as love creating. Dang YouTube!

“Bright Curated Art Finds” Ephemera Pack

There’s a lot of handmade items in this one, stitched collage pieces, painted backgrounds, tags, paperclips, library pockets, pieces of a masterboard, the list goes on. I took a bunch of my most colorful bits and pieces and just started making. It took quite a while to get it all made and organized, and believe it or not, it sat waiting for about eight months to be put together and photographed for my shoppe. Such a slacker!

You can see more details here: EclecticArtJournals

 Monkeying About

I’m trying something new on my YouTube channel, talking about my shoppe and using the “ephemera pack leftovers” in my videos. This is the page spread I created in my video. It was fun, but not quite what I was picturing in my mind. Isn’t that always the way, sometimes it’s hard to hit that creative sweet spot, but other times it happens almost magically…go figure. You can watch the video of this page spread here: Eclectic Art Journals

Using the small “masterboard” pieces

This one turned out a little closer to my liking. I think it may be the Travelers Notebook size of this journal that throws me off sometimes, luckily I have quite a collection of ‘long thin’ images in my stash, so I’m good there. You can see a “short” of this page spread here: Eclectic Art Journals

Thank you so much for stopping by! I have a lot of projects and plans that I want to share over the next few months, it’s just a matter of getting organized…and watching less YouTube maybe…

So, until next time,

Be sure to use the coupon code ‘CUSTOMERLOVE20’ to receive 20% off your purchase of anything in my shoppe.

Talk to you soon,

~Patty

Getting Things Done

I’ve been a tad absent lately ticking things off my To Do lists. Because I’m more of a planner than a do’er, I had many containers full of planned out ephemera packs for my shoppe, some of them yeeeaarrs old!…and I got them done. I’ll try not to belabor this point, if you want to see my latest shoppe doings, just hit that button on yonder sidebar.

To the fun stuff…

A couple of weeks ago I decided I wanted to create a stash of flowers to work with, maybe it was the thought of spring being just around the corner. Doesn’t that sound wonderful, “Spring just around the corner!” I was “in town”, meaning a town that has a Hobby Lobby (all being over an hour’s drive) and we had a few minutes to pop in and out, so I grabbed a few more paper pads. Lovin’ the sunflowers, the pads to the right are older HL brand, luckily I grabbed two of my favorites before they were discontinued.

From my older HL “The Paper Studio” paper pads.

A bit of something I did in the evenings after toiling in my shoppe. This can be a bit tedious, but it’s a nice evening project in while listening to a book on Audible with your feet up.

Something I had in the back of my mind.

I wanted to see if I could incorporate flowers onto things, like trees, people, and…thats all I’ve got. But I knew I needed a selection of florals to work from, and now I do.

I left a little tuck spot for a journaling bit, this bird head seemed to fit the bill…pun! Ha!

Anyway, I glued a bit of ledger paper to the back of her, just enough to jot down a thought.

If you’ll notice, I punched holes in the tree with my binding machine, snipped the edges, and popped it into my journal, kind of like a Happy Planner page. I wanted it in this spot, but I didn’t want to cover up that deer, I have the plans for him.

Well, I hope you are as excited as I am to welcome back Spring, in the meantime I will be creating a few gardens with my flowers!

As always,

Thank you for stopping in,

Have a great week,

~Patty
