Trying to Keep Up

I’ve been busy with all the projects that have been floating around in my brain, and my desk, for quite a while. I have too many ideas and not enough time…or maybe energy?

But there’s lots to do, and I’m slowly getting things done. Slowly being the operative word!

Making journals into fodder.

My latest ephemera packs have been half finished for a couple of years. They started out as a way to use some of my very early art journals for my shoppe. You see, I had to go through my journals when we downsized to a smaller home a few years ago. Some of my journals were not hard to let go of, but I also couldn’t just toss them out either. So I took them apart, played around with them, and turned them into things I could share (sell, let’s be honest)).

The little gypsy is from a tag journal from many moons ago that can be a journal spot, and I made some pages from another journal into tags. I added some gesso and strategic paper pieces to cover my journaling, but most of them are double sided and have some creative potential.

A bit on the grungy side.

I had fun putting it all together, rusty paperclips with fabric clusters, coffee dyed coin envelopes, dyed vintage lace, more journals spots from one of my early index card journals (that makes three journals used up!), old book pages, tea dyed journal papers, and more. This ephemera pack is pretty muted in tone, but as you know, I’ve always loved playing with different styles and colors.

Keeping organized.

These packs have a lot more handmade items than my old style of ephemera packs which were filled with mostly “found” items. I have a lot of ideas I want to use in the future, so I made this ‘Idea Book’ for notes, resources, and creations. I have made something like this in the past, but this feels more like a journal, more hands on and useful.

So much inspiration!

There are so many awesome ideas out there, added with a few of my own, that there doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day for all of them, but I’m giving it my best effort. I decided to include a few photos of my latest ephemera pack into this journal for reference along with some fun ideas for projects.

(I made a video of this journal, the link is in the sidebar if you would like to learn a little more about it.)

Another trip to the vet.

The biggest reason I am having a hard time keeping up with all the things right now is our lil’ fur baby Lily is reaching that time of life where things are starting to fail and I want to spend as much quality time with her as I can. It’s going to be pretty rough when we loose her, she’s my little bestie, so I hope I can keep up when we do. Meanwhile we are doing what we can to make her comfortable and happy!

Until next time,

Sending Joy and Love to you and yours,

Thank you for the visit,

~Patty

Shoppe and Video Newness

It’s been a while since I shared about my shoppe here because like everything else creative in my life, I’ve been struggling to make the time. I tend to go whole hog for a few days on a project, then burn out. And it seems to get harder to get back into the grove again as I get older, kinda like “The Little Engine That Could” chug, chug… Of course it doesn’t help that I love watching other people create as much as love creating. Dang YouTube!

“Bright Curated Art Finds” Ephemera Pack

There’s a lot of handmade items in this one, stitched collage pieces, painted backgrounds, tags, paperclips, library pockets, pieces of a masterboard, the list goes on. I took a bunch of my most colorful bits and pieces and just started making. It took quite a while to get it all made and organized, and believe it or not, it sat waiting for about eight months to be put together and photographed for my shoppe. Such a slacker!

 Monkeying About

I’m trying something new on my YouTube channel, talking about my shoppe and using the “ephemera pack leftovers” in my videos. This is the page spread I created in my video. It was fun, but not quite what I was picturing in my mind. Isn’t that always the way, sometimes it’s hard to hit that creative sweet spot, but other times it happens almost magically…go figure. You can watch the video of this page spread here: Eclectic Art Journals

Using the small “masterboard” pieces

This one turned out a little closer to my liking. I think it may be the Travelers Notebook size of this journal that throws me off sometimes, luckily I have quite a collection of ‘long thin’ images in my stash, so I’m good there. You can see a “short” of this page spread here: Eclectic Art Journals

Thank you so much for stopping by! I have a lot of projects and plans that I want to share over the next few months, it’s just a matter of getting organized…and watching less YouTube maybe…

So, until next time,

“By the Sea” Page Spread Process

fullsizeoutput_4446

As part of my effort to downsize some of my art journaling supplies I have been pushing through and getting ephemera packs into my shoppe. I tend to have a few bits and bobs left over, so I thought it would be fun use some of them up in this olde junk journal.

Truth be told, all of my art journals are on the olde side now. This is the first page spread I’ve done in a few months, and I thought it would be fun to share a bit of my page layering process.

fullsizeoutput_444d

Paint scrapings of course, but printables on clear label paper is becoming a fave. I found a bunch of neutral colored options on Etsy. (I would share some Etsy links, but there are so many, I think you’ll have more fun searching on your own.) I tried to be strategic with the paint scraping because the photo at the upper left is of some sailors from the 40’s climbing up a coconut tree in the Philippines, how cool is that!

Next is the larger pieces: Map, wave image, horseshoe crab, and scrapbook paper. Strange choices, but I’m liking the color balance.

Medium type ephemera pieces, if you look closely you can see some ‘rub ons’. How long has been since you’ve seen any of those? I couldn’t believe they still worked. It took some doing between texts, questions from my everlovin’, a timer, and my dogs nemesis, the mailman…did he really need to knock!…but I digress…

Many of the images I have left over are from vintage nature books. Easily available at thrift stores, and among my favorite to work with, especially birds. I love how rub ons blend the elements, I wonder if they still sell them.

A close up of one of my favorite postage stamps and the sailors up the tree. You can see that I’m still using pencil to highlight around the images and layers.

This sweet little bird has been floating around my art room for years. so long that I don’t remember if I’m the one who colored it in or if I found it that way, found a home at last.

Until then,

~Patty

Shoppe Newness

Between moving rooms, then cleaning and decorating, I’ve decided it was time to pay a little attention to my shoppe. It’s funny how digging deep into clutter can inspire you!

(*be sure to get to the bottom of this post for an awesome announcement!)

I had a specific request to make some journals out of non-children’s books. Any ideas on what to call those other than “Adult” books? I can’t go there, I don’t even want to think about the trouble that will cause!

Go here for more details: Art Journals

This is one of my favorite things to make, “Surprise Packs”! 70+ pieces of vintage goodness!

“Springtime” ephemera packs, filled with lots of fun spring related bits and bobs!

I have been making great progress on my new creative space, but there are a few more fun little touches I need to make, and I’ll be sure to share some photos here when I’m finished.

Well, that’s it for now,
