Color Crush Planner Decor

Hmmmm….another planner eh! It seems that once you drop down the rabbit hole of the planner world, you keep coming up with more excuses to buy new planners! The original plan for this one is still intact, decorating with the latest planner packs* from my shoppe, but this one will be also doubling as a business resource binder. A place where I keep lists of books I’m reading, or need to read, blogs with great advice, audio books, and of course journaling. I would love to have it all in one place!

I’m going with a summer picnic theme right now. Polka dots, gingham, fresh fruit, flowers and lots of bold color. I chose paper with sand because the beach is where most of our picnics took place growing up. It got to where I didn’t know what a sandwich tasted like without sand in it! Dad always said “Why do you think they call them ‘sand’wiches! Besides, it’s roughage!” Okie-dokie!

IMG_7711

Once I started working on it, ideas just flowed. I have quite a collection of goodies to choose from at this point as you can well imagine!

IMG_7714

I’m almost sure that there will come a time when I will have to rein in the collecting and spending…yeah, right!

IMG_7712

I’m actually braving the stamping thing a bit more, so much trial and error. I say start out on the inexpensive bits to cut down on the angst. Now, I have a set of nifty personalized post its!

IMG_7715

It has been pretty darn awesome to start using things that have been sitting in a box for months waiting for a home! I can’t wait to start labeling and organizing this planner! I will continue to change up the decor, but the content will stay the same…I hope!

Once again, thank you for the visit,

Have a great week!

~Patty

*Footnote: the planner packs I refer to in this post will be ready by the end of the week! 🙂

A Last Minute Art Journal

A week ago Thursday, I had to make a mad dash out the door for a family emergency. The original plan was to drive down to Southern California, like I usually do. But, because those plans got sidetracked at the last minute, all I could manage to throw into my suitcase was a planner,  a plastic case of post its,  and a zip pouch of pens and paperclips!

IMG_7659

Luckily, most of my planners are pretty well stocked with goodies!

IMG_7658

I ran to the office supply store and picked out a few small things to try and make a journal. I always take journaling supplies with me on trips, and knew that on this a trip, I would definitely need one! I bought these little notebooks that measure about 3″ x 4″,  some glue sticks to glue the pages together for strength, and I was good to go!

IMG_7661

I always keep any paper that comes my way on a trip. This is the receipt for my mono-lithe of a suitcase!

IMG_7661

One of the things on my brother’s agenda was eating in particular restaurants while we were in L.A, Izzy’s, “Deli to the Stars!”, being one of them,  I asked for a to go menu and found a photo of the sandwich I had ordered. My plane ticket is in the background.

IMG_7677

Here is an example of using my supply of post its and notepaper to decorate.

IMG_7666

My brother and I decided that this would be a great opportunity to revisit some of our old neighborhoods in the Valley. We moved a lot as children, which kept the two of us close to this day! Everything was an adventure to us back then…it hasn’t changed!

IMG_7671

I’m throwing this in as an example of finding random bits on the street…literally. The newspaper and tag on the left had been run over a few times brefore I rescued them! On the right is a cute business card from a place we stopped off at for a beer…or two.

I did take a lot of photos of the local scenery on this trip, but had to wait until I got home to be able to print them up. It was important to have something with me to document our trip, and because I was able to journal each day, I have something to turn to help jog my memory when I work on a larger journal of this trip.

I wish that this could have been a vacation trip with lots of visiting and laughs like so many times in the past. But, it was a trip to go say goodbye to our father, a sad but inevitable part of life. There were a few laughs, lots of “I love you’s”, and of course “Good-bye’s”. I consider myself extremely lucky to have been able to have this time with my family, and of course my dad!

Now, I’m happily home with the rest of my family with a grateful heart!

Thank you for your time,

Have a wonderful weekend,

~Patty

Mini Art Journal

This is a little something I worked on over the weekend. I was hoping to write about it sooner, but the week got away from me.

IMG_7353

I purchased this little set of books about six years ago. I fell in love with these covers, they are so 60’s with all that color and woodgrain!

Once again, what I had started doing with them didn’t work out, so I put them back on the shelf, and on the back burner.

Then last week, I watched a few videos on Midori Traveler’s Notebook decorating, and thought I might be able to do some of the same things with these,  in my own fashion of course!

IMG_7307

I did this on Sunday. I thought this would be a fun way to use up my vast collection of smaller bits and bobs. The first thing I did was to go through each notebook and glue the pages together to give them strength, and to cut down on the numbers of pages.  Then went through and covered those with thin patterned paper, I was hoping to keep the thickness to minimum! Good luck with that!

This isn’t my father, I found this photo amongst my grandmother’s things. He was either a boyfriend, or wanted to be. Grandma was a busy gal!

IMG_7312

I have put together a travel case with small containers of randomness to use up and inspire. Staying within a color story with each page spread is one of my favorite challenges. The plan is to spend time on getting as many pages decorated as I can, so I have a ready place to journal. I’ve decided to use some of my collection of inspirational quotes in them too. I have always loved quotes, so this is a really fun addition for me.

IMG_7325

So, there you have it,  the beginnings of getting another WIP under my belt! It’s been such a treat to work in these, I have to put them away to get other things done, Love!

Thank you so much for spending your time with me,

Enjoy the rest of your week,

~Patty

Art Journaling Magazine Article

Some out of the ordinary news here. My article in Art Journaling Magazine is out! Yay! It has been quite a while since I’ve written an article for them, so I’m super glad they liked it! I don’t think they will mind if I give you an early peek at my article.

IMG_7252

Anybody that followed my olde blog has seen a lot of these pages, but not in print! Aha!

IMG_7262

This art journal is kinda long in the tooth, it took some time to decide whether or not to submit it for publication. It’s a bit of a departure from what I usually submit, and I didn’t know if they would be on board.

IMG_7268

My technique is still a work in progress, either that or I just get bored easily!

IMG_7277

I really need to back to using my own photography in my work again. I just love that shot of our tree in the front yard.

Anyway, I thought it was worth mentioning. It’s a fun thing to see your work in print and imagine it being seen around the world!

Thanks for stopping by,

Have a great weekend,

~Patty

Some Art Journaling

I have been meaning to get back to my art journaling for a couple of weeks now, but something seems to always take precedence! So, I decided to shove a few things aside and have some fun!

This is one of my favorite journals, mostly because I love this little book. It’s a story about a colony of mice, a trash heap, and ensuing mouse drama. Lovely!

And of course, my spin…

IMG_7132

…in the the form of journaling. I have been adding ready made ephemera, lots of washi tape, and scrap paper to my pages lately, a habit I’ve picked up from working in my list challenge journals.

IMG_7133

Coloring in the illustrations is a must, I can’t bring myself to cover them up.

So Cute!

IMG_7134

This plain green page was a bit tricky! I tried to think of all the colors that made the least sense, and came up with this: brightness with black and white accents.

More washi tape, scrap paper, circle punch-outs, , mid-century images, and some The Reset Girl glasses

IMG_7137

This is the next page over. Again, as a hold over from working in my list journals, I tried to mimic the color story to give the page spread a more cohesive look.

Scrapbook paper, punch-outs, washi tape, ready-made and random ephemera, and of course journaling! Oh, and that yellow heart is punched from some adhesive washi paper that I found at Michael’s in the “Fun Finds” bins.

IMG_7141

If you are new to my blog, you will get used to the fact that I share my journaling on line. I don’t write anything too personal or embarrassing, I have other journals for that! I figure there is a chance I’ll consider submitting them for publication, and they’ll publish my journaling anyway, so…

On that note, I have an article coming out in the Summer issue of Art Journaling magazine next month, so I’ll be sharing that soon!

Until next time,

Thanks for stopping by,

Have a fab day,

~Patty
