Journaling Pockets

This was one of those weeks where I had a lot on my mind and knew journaling was the only way to give my brain a rest, if you know what I mean. There are two reasons I’m not a fan of writing directly on my pages. One: most of the time my journaling is of a private nature. Two: I’m not a huge fan of my penmanship. So pockets and journaling spots it is!

Here are some of the pocket choices, a small bag, a premade kraft library pocket, a tea stained coin envelope, and a thrifted vintage pocket replacement package (say that three times fast!).

As you will soon see, I went a little off track, but I used two of them.

Something I picked up years ago because I thought the graphics were so kitschy-cool. I didn’t realize that it actually still had a pocket inside, I will be using that in a future sewing project.

I slipped a piece of card stock down into the package to strengthen it a bit, (you can see some of the card stock in the little window) then I glued the envelope’s flap down onto the card stock to make the opening a little stronger.

You can almost see a large tag poking out of the top of the pocket, I have a fun way of making my journaling tags, I’ll be sharing about those soon.

Another envelope that I’ve hung onto for years. I’m not sure what outpost I ordered from, but I loved the package it came in. I filled it with a couple of large journaling cards. I have to say, it’s really nice to finally use up some of these things I’ve been hanging on to for so long.

A small paper bag that I’ve always wanted to find a use for. That bottom third is the bottom of the bag. I ran a line of adhesive along the sides and stuck it to the front of the bag to make a small pocket. Then glued the bag to the page. It opens up quite a bit, I could really fill it with a lot of tags and journaling cards, or maybe some keepsakes.

This is an idea I picked up on Instagram, it’s a greeting card. The gal I got this idea from didn’t say how she adhered them to her pages, so I just improvised. I glued the bottom and one side edge together with an adhesive runner, then glued the card to the page.

I just realized I could have just run the adhesive around three sides of the back of the card and made a second pocket! Hopefully I’ll remember that next time (I can’t wait to show more of that tag in a later post!).

This is what started this whole pocket making thing. I filled these journaling inserts in a mad frenzy of writing, and wanted to make sure I had plenty of journaling spots ready for the next time I needed to get thoughts on paper. Now my journal is bulging! Oh well!

As you can see, I still have a couple of pockets to work with. I’ll be sure to share them when they’re finished.

I hope my directions were clear. If not, please feel free to ask any questions ion the comments or email me, my email address link is at the top of my sidebar.

As always, thanks so much for dropping in,

Have a great week,

~Patty

Stitched Art Journal

The other night I was feeling creative, but wasn’t in the mood to get out paper, small bits, and glue. I wanted to do some stitching, but that quilted runner in the corner just wasn’t speaking to me. So…

…I got out my stitchery journal suitcase. It’s been a looooong time since this has seen the light of day!

WARNING!  This is a pretty long (but hopefully fun) blog post, so grab a snack…or a pillow!

A page I finished quite a while ago, but didn’t share here. I made a lot of copies of old photos onto fabric I’m happy to say, because I’m not sure my new printer will cooperate with fabric. Snippits of worn out stitched thrifty finds are perfect for these fabric journals.

This project is humming right along because I have so many embellishments from other projects I’m repurposing. I do that with my paper art journals too, I love having a stash of ready made decorating bits. The bird is clearly impressed!

Using up an orange lace flower from another project. I’m not sure what I’ll do when I run out of leftover embellishments! (actually, yes I do.)

This little Raggedy Anne has been looking for the right home for years. This is definitely her new forever home.

Are you still hanging in there?

Haven’t lost you yet I hope!

A piece of painted canvas fabric and a hand made fabric button. I’m slightly addicted to making fabric buttons. I even have a Wilhold button making kit now, I’ll share more about in another post.

I have a lot of those travel thread pieces left from my mom’s sewing stash. this is a perfect project to use those up in.

You never know what you’ll find floating around in that old suitcase of mine!

At last, the final photo. Thought I would show you a bit of the planning stage of my next page spread.

Truth be told, I wanted to share about this journal because I know that there are a lot of people that love shopping the sewing and crafting sections of thrift stores as much as I do, and we all need a little inspiration for some fun ways to use them up.

Also, I’ve been thinking about putting some “sewing notion” ephemera packs into my shoppe some day and thought I’d throw out some feelers.

If you made it to the end of this post without needing a nap, I thank you.

Please let me know in comments if you would like to see more posts of my stitchery journals, your feedback is always appreciated!

As always,

Thanks for stopping in,

Have a wonderful weekend,

~Patty

Shoppe News!

New art journals and ephemera packs in the shoppe today!

One of my favorite things to do is to gather up books and ephemera within a theme. Christmas and Halloween is easy, but some of the other themes I come up with are a bit trickier. I’ve had this one on the back burner for quite a while…

…”Country Life”, just in time for summer!

Each ephemera pack has 45+ pieces with matching paperclips (loved making those!).

Lots of farming, barnyard animals, and fruits and veggies.

The journals have lots of super cute pages with a country theme.

Each one comes with their own small selection of ephemera of course.

And painted art pages.

Please mosey on over to PattysArtJournals if you would like to see more details, the link to my shoppe is in my sidebar, or click here.

I’m happy to say that I’ve decided to do these “Shoppe News” posts during the week from now on. I want to leave my weekends free for sharing my latest creative projects, or in the case of this weekend’s post, thrifting! Yay!

Thanks so much for the visit

Hopefully I will see you this weekend,

~Patty

Shoppe News and “Half-baked” Art Journals

My goal of finishing up “half-baked” art journals is well on it’s way.

I’m one of those people that gets super inspired, then wants to jump in before I loose my momentum, leaving partially finished projects in my wake.

This journal is from a batch of mini art journals I made back in 2015. They were really popular, they may have to make a comeback.

The final page spread. Time to move on…

…but before I do that, I want to share the new ephemera packs this journal inspired me to make for my shoppe.

There’s a lot to take in here, flower cutouts (I cut way more than I’ll ever use), stamped images, floral postage stamps, vintage images from an old gardening book, birds…well, you get the idea.

I think these are my favorite ephemera packs to date. I made 10 of them, so if you’d like to see more, pop over to my shoppe by hitting the link in my sidebar or go here.

I’ve struggled over the last week as to which “half-baked” art journal I want to jump back into for June, and I have finally chosen one. I’ll share more about that next time.

As always,

Thanks so much for stopping by,

Have a great weekend,

~Patty

Mini Art Journals In the Shoppe

Well, between weeding and replanting, I finally got around to making and listing some mini art journals. I love these mini art journals to use up some of the smaller bits that need a home.

I used the original book pages on all of these because they were so cute.

Case in point!

Of course lots of ephemera included.

And some of my painted pages. I kept them simple and just decorated over the white background.

Be sure to use the coupon code: CUSTOMERLOVE20 to receive 20% off your order!

There’s lots to look at, so pop on over to my shoppe when you get a chance! The link is in my sidebar, or here

Until next time,

Thanks for the visit,

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend,

~Patty
