Thrifty Thursday

I don’t know if I have ever mentioned this before, but I use this blog as my accountability partner. Meaning, I have a schedule I keep so that I HAVE to make or do to something to blog about. But, sometimes this means I have to shop in order to have content. I know! How unfair is that!!!

Anywho, knowing that I had a “Thrifty Thursday” on the horizon, off I went. I didn’t find anything too terribly exciting, but here goes…

IMG_3191

…actually, these are pretty exciting! Vintage Air Mail envelopes to add to my “Mail Ephemera” collection. Some day I will actually use some of it!

IMG_3193

Then there are these, some super tiny playing cards. When I bought these they were taped up and just the card facings were showing. So, imagine my surprise and delight when I opened them up and found these retro hula girls on the covers! Yowzza!

IMG_3196

A collection of mid-century chapter books for the shop. I love those “Bobbsey Twins” books the most. I can’t wait to make them into journals!

IMG_3198

This was the most exciting find of all, a book I had as a child! I have always wanted to find this book. Not just any book though, I wanted one with the copyright dates from the years I was a kid, and it does! This one will definitely not be going into the shop! I want to read this to my grandson when he comes for visits! Swoon!

Hmmmm…this post was actually a little more exciting than I thought it would be…well at least for me!

That’s it for now,

As always, thank you for the visit,

 Have a great day,

~Patty

A Personal #collageaday Project

Last week, on a whim, I decided to start my own collage-a-day challenge. Sometimes I will journal, but mostly I will just be out trying new techniques or using up paper goodies.

I apologize if you are seeing these same photos on instagram, but in case you don’t…

IMG_09604/21

I started with scraping matching paint onto the grid side. I try to make both sides of my page spreads coordinate together, and paint seems to be the best way to start.

As I have confessed in the past, I am a ephemera hoarder, and these journals are a perfect way to use them up.

We don’t keep all those little bits and bobs unless we love them!

I have become addicted to attaching random die cuts together as one unit to have on hand. I attach them with brads, staples or adhesive. Super fun to make, and a great way to use up those small bits.

I’m starting to feel much more comfortable with stamping now. Which is super awesome considering the amount of stamps I own!

IMG_0988

This morning I was in the mood to do  little journaling, so I added one of my handmade library card holders.

That quote on the right was on the other side of the piece with the girls on the left, I was sad to loose it, so I printed it up on the computer. I love Miltie!

IMG_0982

Another journaling space I wanted to share before I started writing on it.

So, now you are officially my accountability partners on this project. Now that I have put it out there, I’m committed!

So far, I am really enjoying this project. Sometimes I’ll get the backgrounds done the night before so that all I have to do is decorate the next day. Other days, it’s all about looking around the room, or the internet, for inspiration.

I’m doing this on my own, so if you decide to join in, please tag me on instagram @radishblossoms so I can give you some hearts!

Until next time,

Thanks again for dropping by,

Have a wonderful day,

~Patty

Auntie Patty’s Craft Camp

This is year two that my niece has flown up from San Francisco to stay with me for her Spring break. She’s 11 years old and loves to craft, so it’s a treat for both off us to have this time together!

We have been busy with one thing or a another for almost two weeks now, and we thought we would share some of it with you.

IMG_3138

I told her I had some fabric pens she could keep, and this is the project she came up with. Personally, I’m amazed! We printed this “Tribal Heart” off the inter-webs, then she traced these from a black and white copy. Brilliant!

IMG_3119

Apparently Shrinky Dinks are big in her world. A circle punch, a 1/4 inch hole punch, colorful Sharpies, Shrinky Dink sheets, jump rings, earring hooks, and you have fashion!

IMG_3125

Today is her mother’s birthday, so a card is a must! Even the envelope is super cute! Love!

IMG_3129

We watched a video on watercoloring and this is what she came up with. I love that neckless, and that quote…she amazes me! Seriuously, I couldn’t write that with a pen let alone with a paint brush!

IMG_3123

This is the art journal we made together last year. She wanted to work on it while she was here. I love it!

IMG_3132

Last, but certainly not least, I made her this Fabric Dori with a couple of inserts. This is her first page spread in it. So sweet!

These past two weeks have been a whirl wind of trips, crafting, a movie, a picnic on the beach, and family time! We need a vacay!

Hope you enjoyed our trip!

Thank you for stopping by,

Have a great weekend,

~Patty

My New (to me) Art Journal, and a bit of a process share

Surprisingly enough, I have actually been finishing up journals faster than I had noticed. So, I’m happy to say it’s time to start a new one!

IMG_3091

This is a journal that was a little too rough around the edges for my shoppe, so I pulled it out. The colors and themes in it are what I would call “Retro Eclectic”, in other words: challengingly (is that a word?) fun!

Lately, I’ve been trying to step outside of my comfort zone and start using paint in my scrap journals, so I thought I’d share the results in steps.

IMG_3079

I have had these pigments for a very long time, and thought they would be great for scraping onto the text pages in this journal. They worked beautifully for adding color without covering up the text too much!

Super easy-peasy to just add a dab of paint to the card and scrape. The pigment dries quickly without warping or wrinkling the page.

IMG_3082

And a new way to apply tissue for me. I usually use matte medium, which takes a while to dry. A glue stick works well too, but you don’t get the same depth of color through the tissue paper as you would by saturating it with liquid adhesive, but it’s still a nice addition to the page. I’m going to try adding the tissue first, then the pigment next time.IMG_3097

The finished page.

Die cuts, fussy cut image, postage stamps, washi tape, and stickers.

(it seems I’ve managed to cover up all the text I was trying to save, ooops!)

IMG_3098

I’m trying to remember trace around some of the images to give them depth. Again, I tend to be a little too critical about my drawing, and this is no exception, but practice, practice, practice as they say.

IMG_3096

Also,  I’ve been trying my hand at using Gelatos. They’re super fun to use and dry quickly.

So, there it is, a new journal to share. I’m hoping that I will continue to try new things with out over complicating my pages too much. That’s a lot of color!

Once again,

Thank you stopping in,

Have a great day,

~Patty

Shoppe News and My Best Helper!

This doesn’t happen often enough, but on the day that I sold the last “Surprise Ephemera Pack” in my shoppe, somebody convo-ed and asked if I sell ephemera packs. Well, far be it from me to let an opportunity slip on by, so I got right to work, along with my trusty companion, and made some more.

IMG_0925

…my trusty companion meaning my niece of course! It was so much more fun to have someone to chat with and bounce ideas off while putting these together.

And I have to say that she put some extra effort into making these packs a little more special by trying to match up colors. I can’t say that they are all one color, just a bit closer than I usually shoot for.

IMG_2988

We spent the morning putting together these flower clips to dress the packages up a bit. I’m determined to get folks addicted to these flower clips whether they like it or not!

IMG_2990

While the glue was drying on the flower clips, we set about putting the packs together. I have kind of an assembly line process for these, so I gave her a container for each group, and she distributed them.

IMG_0916

She especially loved reading those joke playing cards as she put them in each basket. They are fishing jokes, so we spent some time trying to figure out what some of them meant. We should have asked my husband!

Well, we are leaving to visit my daughter on the east side today, but we didn’t want to neglect letting you know about the newness, and remind you that tomorrow is the last day for 15% off with the coupon code IMBACK15

Thanks for the visit,

See you next week,

~Patty
